Frequently Asked Questions

Why are these events not run under a Scottish Athletics Permit?

The Aviemore Half Marathon & 10K comply with all Scottish Athletics requirements.

They are charity fundraising events to support Speyside Trust costs to provide respite care activity holidays at Badaguish for people with a disability.

They are not run under an SAL permit due to the significant additional costs of the permit.

What are the minimum age limits for each event?

Aviemore Half Marathon – aged 17 years or over
10K for All – aged 16 years or over

How accurate is the distance?

As the majority of the route is not on tarmac roads (but on excellent forest tracks!), it cannot be classified as ‘an accurately measured course’. The route has however been measured and checked as 13.1 miles by an official Scottish Athletics course measuring official.

Can I get dropped off at the Start by car?

No – all competitors must catch the free shuttle bus from Aviemore Highland Resort. Cars are not allowed access to the Badaguish Centre Start on Sunday morning.

Can a 'non-race entered person' run alongside a relative or friend who has entered the event?

Absolutely not. On Health and Safety grounds (as covered by the event risk assessment) this would have the potential to cause serious confusion and safety issues for event marshalls, organisers and safety teams and cannot be permitted under any circumstances.

Can people enter the events on race day?

No. All entries must be pre-entered.

If I can't take part, can my entry be transferred to someone else?

No. Entries are non-transferrable.

Do I need all-terrain, off-road or studded running shoes?

No, normal, well-cushioned running shoes are more than adequate for our course

Where can I get more information about all the events and the Speyside Trust Badaguish Centre?

From the event programme sent to all competitors, from this website and our main website.

What is the Macdonald Mile Fun Run?

A 1-mile run (or jog, walk, or wander!) within the Aviemore Highland Resort, held at 2.30pm on Saturday, the day before the Aviemore Half Marathon. It attracts adults, children, families, wheelchair users, in fact everyone to do a ‘wee mile’ around the Highland Resort area. It’s £3 to enter and all entries are taken on the day at registration within the Strathspey Hotel in the Resort. All finishers receive a Macdonald Mile medal.

Every £200 raised provides a respite care activity holiday at Badaguish for adults and children with a disability
